Sorry for the late head’s up- Kai Shraml, Jon Irvine and I will be in the Shapevine video conference room 2 at 2:30pm talking church planting… everyone is welcome to join in via text or just eavesdrop/lurk
Yep. That’s what it was… We spent Friday night at the Goff’s place with elders and spouses, just relaxing, talking, connecting. Friday night was a good time around the firepit talking through what’s good and what’s challenging in our lives. We reminisced about people and events in Evergreen’s short history- though I’m struck by the fact that we now have enough history to be able actually to “reminisce”… Saturday morning was good breakfast together (seriously- has anyone ever had the bacon from Trader Joe’s??? The thick cut pepper bacon? I cant stop thinking about it…) Yesterday I wasn’t preaching, which…
En dashes: the hidden dangers
Closed Published July 26th, 2008 on Everyone's Blog Posts - Portland PublishersReverently, I quote from The Chicago Manual of Style, 15th edition:
EN DASH
6.83 En dash as “to.” The principal use of the en dash is to connect numbers and, less often, words. In this use it signifies up to and including (or through).
For the sake of parallel construction the word to, never the en dash, should be used if the word from precedes the first element; similarly, and, never the en dash, should be used if between precedes the first element.
—I always forget this! How many times have I tried to use an en with the word from! I blush to think about it.
For example, let’s say a sentence reads, “Plasma atomic emission spectroscopy detected iron concentrations from 35–47% in eight samples.” Don’t let your love for the en dash blind you! Take it out. Use to. The world will be a better place for it.
If I could RSS subscribe to these reviews for Tuscan Milk on Amazon, I totally would… Some examples… (out of 100 pages!) 555 of 600 people found the following review helpful: Kubla Khan or, Tuscan Whole Milk, 1 Gallon, 128 fl oz, August 6, 2006 By Debunker (USA) - See all my reviewsIn Xanadu did Kubla Khan A stately dairy-house decree: Where Alf, the sacred river, ran Through caverns measureless to man, Down to a sunless sea. So twice five miles of fertile ground the sacred cows wandered and fed, And there were gardens bright with soft young grass, Where…

Have you ever noticed- the time just before you move is the time you begin to enjoy the place you are the most. Even if you have significant issues with where you are at… the prospect of moving on brings into sharp relief all the things you love about a place. I think that’s where I’m at, psychically speaking. I’ve been enjoying my life so much these past few weeks- oh, sure- there’s still tiredness and stress, but I feel as though the sleep thing has largely been worked out, I’ve felt good about my pastoring and coaching of others…
HT/Thanks to Paul Glavic for today’s MessiahWatch entry… And it came to pass, in the eighth year of the reign of the evil Bush the Younger (The Ignorant), when the whole land from the Arabian desert to the shores of the Great Lakes had been laid barren, that a Child appeared in the wilderness. The Child was blessed in looks and intellect. Scion of a simple family, offspring of a miraculous union, grandson of a typical white person and an African peasant. And yea, as he grew, the Child walked in the path of righteousness, with only the occasional detour…
Me to Dustin: Hey! The drummer for Jimmy Eats World reads my blog… http://www.findingrhythm.com/blog/?p=836 What the heck? Wait- didn’t I notice that before? Have I mentioned this before and now forgotten it. Oh… deja vu. I need to sit down… b Dustin to me: that’s awesome! I’ve never heard you talk about it before. Imagine if you were a junior high girl though and you found out that the drummer read your blog…you’d probably…well, react the same way you did I guess. Dustin
MessiahWatch: Obama promises to ‘remake the world’
Closed Published July 24th, 2008 on The bob.blog feed!Addressing more than 200,000 elated Europeans massed in Berlin at twilight, presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama promised Thursday that he would work to unite Christians, Muslims and Jews in a safer, more united world. His 27-minute speech at the gold-topped Victory Column was interrupted by applause at least 30 times, with occasional audience chants of “O-ba-MA!” Billed as a speech about Transatlantic relations, it turned out to be a manifesto for the planet, with an appeal to “the burdens of global citizenship.” Local authorities said the crowd was more than 200,000 — triple Obama’s previous record of 70,000 in Portland,…
