yesterday… Up early and spending some time out on the patio, reading and praying. Morning Bible Study with NT Wright, a seminar, great main session with John Ortburg (Dustin: “That guy is totally a rock star with middle aged pastors”),…
Here’s another idea the designer of the Ironic Sans blog came up with that I think is really clever. I can’t see this working for small 10 or 11 point text, but for pull quotes, this could be brilliant in some situations. Read his blog article about it at http://www.ironicsans.com/2007/01/idea_word_balloons_as_quotatio.html.
This is funny, but the fact that they’ve made a tee-shirt out of it staggers my imagination!
For Karli and Kelli…
Wow. Just wow. Listening to NT Wright expound the NT is like what I imagine listening to St Paul expound the OT was like. So fantastically hard to describe. NT: “They asked me what I wanted to speak on. I…
NT Wright just walked by!!! He nodded at me! NT looked at ME!!! I feel faint…
overheard Pastor (southern accent) debriefing call home with friend: “I just talked to my dad… He’s on the hunt! He said last night their youth director told the kids Obama was the anti-Christ.”
Photoshop’s Ruler Tool
Closed Published February 28th, 2008 on Everyone's Blog Posts - Portland PublishersWhen we use Photoshop we tend to only use the tools we know about, often overlooking the rest. I figured I’d share some how-tos on a tool you might not be that familiar with: the ruler.
When we scan photos, it’s rare that they actually are perfectly aligned. Sometimes we deliberately put them at an angle to avoid unintentional scan patterns and artifacts. You can use the ruler tool to rotate your picture precisely. Here’s how you do it:
So let’s say that we’re starting with a scan:

Find the ruler tool in your palette.

Using the crosshairs on the ruler tool, draw a line on what you want to become a straight horizontal line on your page. The top or bottom of your photos work best for this.

Now, you can go up to Image, Rotate Canvas, and Arbitrary. This will bring up a new menu:

Pay attention to if you want it to rotate clockwise or anticlockwise and then make it happen.

There you go. You will soon see this image in Cultivator Press’s upcoming book Tribal Vision.
A good, good day… and my brain finally came on. Right around lunch time, actually. Whew. (Since giving up coffee about a month ago, I’ve been stepping down with Zip Fizz- when that ran out, I started stepping down even…
Download a book for free (through February 29)
Closed Published February 27th, 2008 on Everyone's Blog Posts - Portland PublishersI found this on Book Patrol. Michael Lieberman says it better than I, but here’s the dirt: Random House is offering it’s recent title Beautiful Children (by Charles Bock) as a free pdf download. Offer good through Leap Day. Because I live in a cave (with my Mac and my piles of work to do), I have never heard of this book or this author. But I know some of you out there are interested in the e-book scene, so you might want to take a look.
Download the book here. It’s a quick download.
